Today I worked on updating my physical, and mental fitness. I worked on posting STRANGER IS JUST A FRIEND I HAVEN'T MET YET and I DELIVERED.
A STRANGER IS JUST A FRIEND I HAVEN'T MET YET
Today I talked to my collogue, Diego and Salvador and they told me they use to go to Santa Maria High, the conversation was extremely short because they were uninterested in what I was saying.
My daily routine
My daily schedule is feeding the chickens, eat breakfast, go to band, Preston's class, work, clean, eat, feed chickens again, make dinner, eat, clean, shower, read bible and sleep. My working routine is not very strong so I don't have anything to say here.
LEARNING FEEDBACK
The most valuable feedback I have received was in the last semester of OSLA. I remember everyone was giving me feedback on my posts and blog overall and it was nice how I gave them feedback and they gave me feedback. The feedback mattered to me because I needed to know how I was doing on my school work, if I had forgotten a comma, or my spelling was off. All of that really helped me and it made me become better organized and a better student overall.
HACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT QUESTIONS
What is OSLA about?
OSLA is an abbreviation for Open-Source Learning Academy. We are online, and we are different in the sense that we don't get graded by a letter. We learn what we are interested in but we connect our interest with history, science, and English.
What is the easiest part of OSLA?
The easiest part of OSLA is getting there on time, we have a schedule when we first enter our zoom call. We start of by relaxing for two minutes then go on to write our daily journals while hearing some calming music, that's the easiest part of OSLA.
What is the hardest part of OSLA?
The hardest part of OSLA is getting everyone to communicate with each other. I feel like there are some individuals who are so shy that won't even answer a question Dr. Preston, or myself asked. And then there's others who distract me from getting my work done or focus in class.
What have you learned so far?
I have learned that there are ENDLESS rules of law.
What is your big question/ key interest?
My interest for the fall semester of 2021 currently is law, business and social justice.
MY LEARNING BUFFET
For this school year I want to learn about law, business, and social justice. I want to do something with law enforcement when I'm older, and a little business never hurt anybody.

MY BIG QUESTION
I'M HAVING THE TIME OF MY LIFE
Thinking about time differently can help you achieve your goals because you're more organized about what you are doing throughout your day and it helps you realize that maybe you're using too much time on watching T.V or being on social media.
As I was reading 'Time for Success" I was really intrigued by how Preston says we cannot give 100% of ourselves to more than two things. I also really liked how he gave us steps as to how we can be successful in life by using our time.
My name is Gabriela Mendoza. This is my second semester at the Open Source Learning Academy. I chose to come back because it was a lot of fun the last semester. I am excited to be in OSLA to learn, to grow as a person. I love OSLA. Last year's experience was awesome! We learned about digital data, how to plan accordingly, empathy and sympathy, the nutrition label, and we applied for scholarships, learned more about colleges, it had everything. It was fun getting to learn certain things that'll be useful to us in the future.
One of my key interests for the second semester of the year 2020-2021 is nutrition. I will say I have connected with this subject. I am interested in nutrition, and I believe it is vital. At the beginning of this year, I knew a few facts and studied on my own, but the OSLA program helped me learn the depth of nutrition to then be able to inform myself, colleagues, and future members of the OSLA program. I do plan to continue my learning next semester. I want to know what nutrients, minerals, vitamins can do for your body and how your body takes these different types of benefits. I want to connect the body and health, and then see where I go from there.
I unequivocally can state that I have completed the hero's journey. At the beginning of this journey, I learned about the hero's journey how it is a template created by Joseph Campbell in which one goes on an adventure and comes back transformed or changed. At the beginning of my journey, I was a bit frightened but eager to be learning a different method, nonetheless. So I can say it was easy in the beginning. After a while, it can get tiring, but you need to do what you need to do, thankfully I had a helper/mentor, Dr. Preston. I often found myself stuck on what I should write or say, but I had my teacher, Dr. Preston to help me and support me when I felt unmotivated. There were also temptations, such as plagiarizing my masterpiece. When I don't know what to do and feel like giving up, I turn to plagiarize to get things done quicker. I wanted a fresh start. It was the beginning of the year, I was learning differently than what I was used to, and I also wanted to change how I write. As the days go by and the end of this semester is coming to an end, I can see my growth both mentally and in school, and that is what made me a hero.
In your average classroom, it's structured in a way where we have no choice what we want to lean, what we would rather do, we may even feel like we can't raise our hands because then the teacher will yell at us for not understanding what she just said. My colleagues did deserve the choices given to us it and we sure did honor it. When we give choices you show that you trust them. All of my colleagues presented masterpieces by our key interests chosen by ourselves in the beginning of the second semester. I believe OSLA is a lot more successful than a regular classroom. At the end of the day your basic regular classroom has students who feel drained, guilty, terrible about their learning. How do you know this for a fact? I know this for a fact because that was me. I got to see year after year how everyone is not learning anymore but just completing the work needed no matter how they got their answers, trying to pass each class for a piece of paper. OSLA embraces mistakes, and doubts. When we learn it is inevitable that we are going to feel stuck at some point, with OSLA you will never feel if whether you should ask a question because we learn its ok to ask questions, be curious about the world, and learn learn learn!
Part of my Masterpiece
We need to be exercising at least thirty minutes per day. If you work in an office or are a student on a computer for more than seven hours, I recommend trying the Pomodoro technique, getting up for five minutes every twenty-five minutes, to stay focused. It doesn't matter what you do, as long as you get up and walk around. If you are sitting, be sure to always maintain a good posture.
How often do you hear people complain about learning high school math? I know many adults that tell me they haven't done any high school math since high school. And I know some are doing very well, succeeding and thriving that don't use math, BUT others are stuck working as a cashier at McDonald's. Calculators are a HUGE help in todays society but only to those who need them, and I don't have anything against calculators, I love them. I sometimes use them myself, but here's why I try to stay away from them. I remember seeing my second-graders peers secretly using those calculators for their test that don't do well with high school math. It's always great to challenge your mind, and math is the perfect way to do this. Algebra 2 is critical and necessary to graduate, and when you graduate with a diploma, you get a little bit more job offers, so you aren't stuck working as a cashier counting money for the rest of your life.
A good baker takes into account what the weather is like. The humidity level in your indoor air affects the moisture balance in a recipe whether your baked goods fall flat, are too dense and chewy, or too dry and crumbly. Dry ingredients like flour, sugar, and salt will absorb moisture at a high humidity level. When humidity is low, they’ll get drier. For perfect cakes, cookies, and other holiday treats, you may need to increase or decrease the amount of liquids in the recipes, adjust the baking time, or keep your indoor humidity level under control. Humidity comes from water evaporating from lakes and oceans.
The chocolate chip cookie was invented in 1938 by Ruth Wakefield. She said, "We had been serving a thin butterscotch nut cookie with ice cream. Everybody seemed to love it, but I was trying to give them something different. So I came up with Toll House cookie." She admitted that it was an accident and expected the chocolate to melt but it didn't. And that's how chocolate chip cookies were invented!
"I'm Feeling Good" by Nina Simone
Las chispas de chocolate fueron inventadas en el año 1938 por Ruth Wakefield. Esto dijo,"We had been serving a thin butterscotch nut cookie with ice cream. Everybodyseemed to love itbut I was trying to give them something different. So I came up with Toll House cookie."
