MY DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

In 1776, the thirteen American colonies declared they were to form a new country, independent or separate from Great Britain. Although they were across the ocean from Great Britain, Great Britain still owned them. The Declaration of Independence states how horrible Great Britain had treated them and why they did what they did. In 1774 representatives from 12 of the 13 colonies met. The fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, is celebrated because of this movement. The declaration of independence explains that all men should have rights, and one shouldn't have less than these rights because we all deserve these rights. Great Britain was reminded and warned several times of how they wanted things to be different.

I'M GETTING GOOD AT THIS

As I read through my second question, I felt confused. It felt more like a poem than questions. These questions were questions that I couldn't answer because I didn't know what they meant. For instance, one line states, "Is that meat on your plate?" I asked myself what exactly could meat be of reference. Was the meat raw or cooked? Rare or well done? I also stopped myself when I saw the word ahimsa. I recognize that word but didn't know its exact definition. At that moment, I searched the word ahimsa on google and found this definition according to Oxford definition, "(in the Hindu, Buddhist, and Jainist tradition) respect for all living things and avoidance of violence toward others." What I took from that sentence is ahimsa is peace, and being a good person. As I was reading, I was imagining pictures in my head as a form of habit. That didn't work too well because there were many random and different activities happening. I am asked if we should line up at the barbeque when I was asked a phrase ago if I had meat on my plate. I am also told to look into Ashoka's diet. I had no idea who Ashoka was, but I researched and found not only his diet but his history and how he was king. (posted in key interests: history page) It also told me to read my Michael Pollan. I had no idea who this man was so, I searched, who is Michael Pollan? Wikipedia tells me, "...author and journalist, who is currently the Knight Professor of Science and Environmental Journalism at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism." I saw the books he's written, and they all have to do with something about plants and food.

Usually, when I see a contract or an agreement, I don't have a choice about what it says. This time is different. I am able to change the contract if I think it needs some polishing, and we communicate with everyone else who is going to sign the contract to see if they are to agree. If I get enough votes the contact is changed. That way, when we do all sign the DECLARATION OF DIGITAL INDEPENDENCE we all agree.

MY THREE JOURNALS

I would love to be able to travel more often. The farthest I've traveled in oceanside for my niece, but regardless we only spent a few hours there. At the end of the day the reason why I love coming home so much is because I have a good bed that I wanted to sleep in. That's probably my only reason, but I'm sure a hotel can do the same for me. I wish I were able to see more of this world, to try different foods, not being able to understand other peoples languages, experiencing traditions, seeing buildings, having fun.

The reason why I believe many people complain about not being able to go out or having to stay home is because they miss having fun with other people that are not their family members. Personally, I don't have a safe family, mentally. There is always problems and I usually would always try to avoid them but now that we can't go out its been pretty hectic, but someone that has a loving family I am sure they aren't complaining.

The paragraph we wrote did not have agreement, although that does not mean it was necessarily bad. As the person in front of us wrote the next line, we had to come up with the next. This practiced our creativity, imagination, and there was also a good laugh. As soon as the first person stated the setting that took our brain to a more specific story, and it got even more specific the more we wrote.

LOOKING AHEAD FROM BEHIND

"I am beginning a learning journey. Along the way, I'm going to have to use what I've learned throughout my life. Learning is supposed to be the focus of school, so I'll begin with the courses I took last semester. They're not exactly connected with my Key Interest, which is baking, human behavior, and nutrition, but I'm making connections as I go. For example, physical duction is a required class I am taking and I believe nutrition plays a huge role in that. A way I can connect baking and science is I can learn about changes to a recipe such as what a chemical response might be to adding too much salt might be. I can learn about the history of human behavior and examine historical events and evaluating what might have caused a person to act in such a way.

ACCEPTING THE CALL TO ADVENTURE

I open my outlook mail, expecting a question from Dr. Preston I read about this scene and had to answer, what kind of people would serve brain in a restaurant? (link is here if you want to read my response) My reaction as i was reading my question was surprised and I was interested as to what I really thought. This is different than being handed a textbook because not everyone got the same question. Each question was designed specifically for one person based off their interests. When we are given a textbook everyone gets the same information and depending on the person they will most likely not be interested because not everyone has the same interests nor tastes. Although this does not mean that I wont learn anything. In my article, "Am I A Hero?" I explain that this semester can also help me learn the necessary information but its more fun and it fits your interests. At first I didn't know what cognitive decline was. I tried figuring it out without using a browser but couldn't solve it. I hopped on to Google and looked up cognitive. The definition of cognitive according to Wikipedia is, "..."the mental action or process of acquiring knowledge and understanding through thought, experience, and the senses'"  I knew right away what cognitive decline meant. I usually rely on google to be credible and true if it shows me the Wikipedia answer first.

My three journals

The reason I believe that it is harder to make friends when we are older is that I feel that it is more awkward and not everyone is going to want to be your friend. By the time you're in high school you've come across to many people with all different personalities, and it's natural to not like people or be picky to who you call your friend. The way I make friends are I come up to them and act like they're best friends already, but now if I want to make friends I ask how they are and if they tell me something personal I end up being their best friend.

Why do you think people get jealous?
In all relationships and non-relationships, there will likely be jealousy at some point. I believe it's normal to feel jealous now and then. What's not normal is feeling jealous all the time. There are quite a few reasons as to why some of us get jealous. Overthinking and obsessing about them is already so toxic, but it frequently leads to extreme jealousy. Low self-esteem can also lead to envy, but a narcissistic mind can also lead to jealousy, even though one might be so obsessed with themselves. Patterns and signs of jealousy are not being able to trust your partner, another person's success bothers you, and you judge others negatively.

The most amazing adventure I've probably ever had was when I got lost in the boardwalk in Santa Cruz. I was eleven but boy was there a lot of people, and I wasn't use to that. I was a shy and quiet girl who did not express her feelings at all, so getting lost at that age was probably the worst thing that ever happened to me. I remember being in line for one of the rides but I wasn't excited nor patient. I had to accompany my sister and her boyfriend to make sure nothing happened, but there it was. I turned and saw a cotton candy machine. I've never had cotton candy, and the fluffy, blue, sugary, cloud fascinated me. I ran to that machine and bought cotton candy. As the cotton candy melted in my mouth I felt the Santa Cruz heat on my neck and look up at the sun, and as soon as I look down and around I didn't see my sister nor her boyfriend anymore. I was not scared but confused. I walked for what could have been hours searching for my parents, but there were nowhere to be found. I see the sun starting to set. It was beautiful. I was attracted to it, but I was starting to get worried as well. I was too shy to ask anyone for help, so I walked all around that Santa Cruz boardwalk. I sat down sweaty, tired, scared, and hopeless. That was till I saw the back of a bright red sweater walking farther away each second. I knew right away that it was one of my sisters, so I frantically ran towards her, hoping she wasn't lost as well. I had found my family at last. Panting, and sobbing I fell to my knees and told them I am here. "It was about time," my sister tells me. I've never had to run that much like I did that day.

AM I A HERO

I believe this semester will be able to qualify as an adventure in Joseph Campbell's terms and therefore that can qualify me as a hero. My anticipation to learn new things are out of this world. I am curious now more than ever and am a vacuum sucking every new piece of information that is given to me for use in the future. I am prepared for the road and what lays ahead of me to succeed ultimately.

A CALL TO ADVENTURE

If I was served a brain, I'd probably be petrified. Fortunately, I was informed that they are just concerned about cognitive decline, so that calmed me down from having a heart attack. I wouldn't mind classical music playing in the background nor being served leaves and omega-3s, but a brain? either these people are committed to helping each other, or sociopaths. I understand these people are not trying to harm us, but rather intend to help us, but i would be curious as to how they got the brain. I would still refuse to eat the brain though.

So what kind of people would serve me a brain?

Psychopaths who are worried and misinformed thinking eating a brain can prevent memory loss.

three blog posts

How often do you think about the future?

I think about the future everyday, too much in fact. I wonder what tomorrow or next month will look like for me, and then they happen and I feel completely disappointed of how boring or sad it was. I love the weekends and that's what keeps me fighting through the days and Sundays are my reward like a chocolate cake at the end of a dinner because church.

Have you ever said goodbye to someone and felt happy about it?
The last time i ever had to say goodbye to someone was my older sister. I didn't feel happy in the way that i didn't like her and wanted her out but rather i knew it was her time to live and have fun in life, make mistakes, grow and prosper.

LEARNING FEEDBACK

The most valuable feedback i received today was probably people concurring with what I was saying. The feedback I received mattered to me because it made me feel more better about my writing and I got to help someone with a little motivation.

THIS WEEKENDS BLOG POST

I am passionate about the human brain and human behavior. I want to know why people respond or even predicate how i think they will react to a certain situation. I also am excited to be able to learn more and nutrition and how food can affect your energy and mood.

I had science as one of my previously courses and the way I think it helps me is that we can study exactly why people do what they do.

Additional topics I would love to learn are theater, music performance, and marine biology.

Different people I admire are Dr. Phil. He has a show and he talks about mental health issues and has different cases. I also admire Ryan Haddon. She is a Life Coach, Hypnotherapist, Spiritual Mentor & Meditation Teacher. She is always there for advice and is a very good listener.

Mental health comes first. It's critical because if you're not well, you'll end up doing something without common sense, or your energy, mood, behavior might be negatively affected. I focus on my work by surrounding myself with a quiet environment telling myself I won't be distracted, and take walks when I feel that I need to stretch my legs.

The way I see physical fitness is I think it's important. Despite my love of weightlifting, I detest cardio. I believe that exercise helps your mood and confidence. In the short term run, you'll feel good about working out and in the long-term run you'll see a difference in your body and you'll overall have a good frame of mind. I workout out at least four times a week but intense. I've been working out since the start of 2020 so working out isn't going to be a problem here.

Anticipation

This semester i anticipate learning as much as I can. I am curious about all the things i can learn such as nutrition, psychology, algebra, and time.

Reflection #1

I am a Santa Maria high school student. There are hundreds of people that are currently taking online classes right now that attend that school but what makes me different is I am one of six people taking a different program. It's called Santa Maria Open-Source Learning Academy. It's been two weeks and I feel prepared and excited more every day to learn something that interests me. In the beginning, I'll admit, it was a bit scary because out of hundreds of students that attend Santa Maria high I was one of six and I wondered, why me? This program consists of only having one teacher and any topic you want to learn but you'll still be getting the credits you need to graduate. What made me say yes to this different style of teaching is my only teacher Dr. Preston. He was so different from the other teachers in the aspect that you could talk to him and he'll listen, understand and respect no matter what the topic or reason is. I see that he genuinely wants to help us grow as students and people, and that's how I decided that I wanted to be part of this program. I look forward to my classes, and I also feel these thoughts and ideas I can now unleash and talk to someone with experience and wisdom about it.
